American, B 1973 Dharma Lefevre is an artist based in Fort Myers, Florida who uses vivid, dreamy colors to take her viewers to an imaginary mythological world. Through acrylics and watercolors, Dharma creates art pieces that dance around stories of fantasy, always adding her own elements.
She strives to bring vibrantly colorful elements into spaces where they weren’t before, creating a sense of magic and whimsy that’s hard to ignore. Dharma's goal is to create art that delivers a sense of peace, and that transports viewers far and wide, to a world that she desires to share.
She succeeds in creating a fantasy world, full of subtle vibrancy and longing for the unknown.. and sharing stories of the beautiful mythology that has inspired her since a small child. Dharma has been involved with international art projects and is one of the featured artists in 78 Tarot (tm), Devils Reign Art book, and illustrator of both Non-fiction and Roleplaying manuals.
As a child in Salento (Italy), I would watch for hours as my grandmother worked at this old wooden weaving loom. In the south, this is an integral part of Women's’ culture.
I was fascinated by the loom shuttle moving back and forth from one point to another. Witnessing a beautiful combination of sound and creation. I realize now that as I sat there captivated in these fabrics emerging from the loom, I was experiencing something that would mark my future as an artist. My grandmother in that moment was weaving the act of doing and creating by nurturing the love for her family into the fabric.
As a multidisciplinary artist, I experiment with different media, painting, installation fashion and video. I weave them together to create. I strive for artwork that captures the profound beauty and vulnerability of the natural world and explores the interrelationship of humanness and environment.
About my process… painting for me is like going into a
meditative state, everything else around me blocked out
and I focus on the details of my art. I like to start new
paintings, I love the energy of a new painting, the not
knowing how it will end up. And then abandoned, for now,
to start another new piece at my next chance to create.
Once I have several paintings in this abandoned state, I
reclaim them and paint them all together at the same time.
I set one up to absorb my paint and then rotate in the next
piece. Thus, bringing a very cohesive body of work. It’s
all about my layers and the experimental process of
building up a painting. Some are very clearly complete
and finished, while others I am constantly playing with,
that may never be complete. But like I said before its
about the process, the art of creating, that is where the
real magic lies.
